Smart and Skilled funded Hospitality Training course for young people

MYRC Hospitality Ready Program is FREE for Young people aged 17-24 and will commence on Tuesday the 4th of June. The training is funded by Smart and Skilled and all participants must be eligible. Please see the attached document showing the Smart and Skilled eligibility requirements.

MYRC runs the program in partnership with Canterbury Hurlstone Park School of Hospitality (CHP) Metro Assist, Dress for Success and Lentil as Anything. This program aims to provide a practical course supporting young people in developing new skills, confidence, accreditation and work experience to gain employment in the hospitality industry. The majority of the program will run at the School of Hospitality (CHP) and will also include workshops at MYRC and visits to partnering organisations for work experience and workshops.

 

The program will run over four weeks and includes one shift a week of work experience at Lentil as Anything. 

The program includes:

  • Hospitality theory and accredited training run by School of Hospitality, Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL PAS11249 (RSA, RCG, Food and Hygiene, coffee making, customer service)
  • Work experience at Lentil as Anything, Newtown (One shift a week).
  • Professional clothing/styling for interviews (Dress for Work and Dress for Success).
  • Resume writing and interview skills

 

MYRC youth workers will also be available to provide additional support, advice and case work if required.

Youth Yarn and Bush Walk

During the school holidays MYRC in partnership with Headspace will be hosting a Youth Yarn and Bush Walk. Facilitated by Warren Roberts, the Youth Yarn is an event for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Youth (12-24) to come together to discuss issues that matter to them surrounding mental health and wellbeing . Food provided and prizes to be won. Contact Emile at MYRC to register

School Holiday Program April 2019

It’s almost that time of year again with school holidays just around the corner, and we have a jam packed holiday program for young people aged 12 to 18 years!

These holiday activities include the MYRC open day, Girls day in, Bush walk and yarn, Bubble soccer, Boys day out (rock climbing and pizza) and Swimming day at Ryde Aquatic Centre.

Priority is given to young people living or going to school in Marrickville, and those from disadvantaged families. We may also be able to also support families with payments, please call us to discuss.

We still have vacancies in all activities but they are very limited, so get in quick!

Certificate II Retail Course Starting Soon!

The Certificate II in Retail Services course is for young people aged 16-24.

MYRC will be running the course in partnership with Australian Retail Association in the MYRC hall at 23 Yabsley Ave Marrickville and study will commence on Monday 22nd October

Eligibility criteria:

  • Australian permanent resident or Australian Citizen
  • Age 15 plus and not attending school
  • Receiving Centrelink benefits
  • Medicare card
  • Photo ID or licence or Passport or Birth Certificate

This full qualification course reflects the role of frontline retail team members who use a defined and limited range of operational skills to undertake workplace activities. They are involved in mainly routine and repetitive tasks and work under direct supervision of others.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.

Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as frontline team member, customer service assistant and point-of-sale operator.

The course will run for 7 weeks including 2 weeks of work experience.

MYRC youth workers will also be available to provide additional support, advice and case work if required.
